Westwood, Garcia and Rose

Backed these three to win the Open with a view to trade. Rose and Westwood had the worst of the weather this morning which was disappointing, backed them at 36's and 20's respectively and backed Garcia at 12's all last night.

Lets hope tomorrow brings a few good rounds for these three! Well see what happening with tomorrows 3balls.

Struggling to find time to bet at the minute, Golf should tie me over for a few days and maybe some poker too!

Day 20 - Balance £181 (£30 bets in play)

Sunday 13 July 2008

Double Century and then some!

Been a bit slack in updating the blog, apologies! Been making steady progress on the hold em poker and had a nice winner at Newmarket on Friday had a fiver on Marchand D'or at 4.2 which now pushes my bank up to £224. The frenchman left it very late to pip US Ranger on the line - I dont think I have ever seen US Ranger win a race???

Definatley seems to be a Wimbledon hangover with my betting, still there is the Golf starting on the 17th July so hopefully there will be some good trading options. Will have to tap up my Golf buddy for some bets on the 3balls.

Just waiting for my Bacon bagel in bed, life is quite sweet at the moment! Will post my bets on the Football before i go out this afternoon.

Bank - £224.32 Day 16

No football bets but lost a few quid on the hold em poker, not a great day today.

Revised Bank - £211.04 Day 16

Rain Rain Rain

No bet yesterday, been really busy with work and decided to leave the horses alone. Been playing Betfair Hold Em Poker today, made a few quid and I think this area of Betfair could be very profitable in regards to laying. You get 4 hands to Back/Lay - you see and flop, turn and river card with betting rounds inbetween. I enjoy playing Poker so this is a good option for me while i wait for decent bets in other Sports.

39 days until the football season, Crouch on his way to Portsmouth and David Villa being linked today. Rafa said he is on the shortlist, come Rafa get the cash out!

The rain has been causing chaos around the country today and this is somewhat reflected in the racing today, lots of big prices winning today and a few fingers burnt in this challenge. Chin up guys and stick with it, slowly but surely!

Bank £183.98 - Day 12

Fryday has come early

Had a very nice win in the 630pm Windsor. Fryboy had tipped up a horse called KELAMON which was backed from 12's into 3/1 favourite before going on to score by a neck in this 6f sprint - I backed it at 9.2 and 9.4 also had a few quid to place at 2.48. I had seen Fryboy's posts before and he always gave very good advice before disappearing from the forum due to a minority of idiots so very glad i followed him this time.

Only small stakes but bumped my balance up to £186, wasted a few quid in the last at Ripon laying the favourtie at 1.80 - felt the two behind in the market had a good chance of winning and I dislike Jamie Spencer as a jockey - shite.

Damn Spencer - he had to win.

Anyway all in all a very good day - thanks Fry! I will have a look at the football tomorrow, I miss the Tennis and the Euro's. Only 40 days until the season starts.

Bank £180.00 - Day 10

Sunday 6 July 2008

Cecil Eclipsed

Was disappointed to see Phoenix Tower get caught on the line by Mount Nelson. Would have put my bank nearer £200 but was pleased with backing Venus to win Wimbledon to keep my bank around £140...

Had a good weekend in London with the missus just back to watch the Mens Final - what a match so far, i think Fed will edge it. 7-7 in final set!! Had nice trade in the football tonight, always goals in Norway backed overs and traded out after first goal to make a quick tenner.

Onwards and upwards, if only Henry Cecil had won the Eclipse!

Bank £142.87 - Day 9

Saturday 5 July 2008

Henry Cecil

Almost lost 80 sheets on the tennis yesterday, backed nadal to win 3-0 at 1.24. When he was a break down in the second set i thought i was a dead man!! Traded out at 1.14 i should have let ride after the 2nd set but wasnt taking any more chances! Also backed Fed to win 3-1 so was unlucky there..

Just a quick post today - I have backed Venus to win the final today and backed both Cecil runners in the Eclipse. I remember when i first started getting into horse racing the Cecil/Fallon combination was lethal.

Lets hope Henry has another big winner today.

Balance £120 - Day 7 (£18 worth of bets pending)

Thursday 3 July 2008

Serena or Venus?

I had decided to back Serena Williams today at 1.14 - her opponent was the chinese outsider who had performed well up to now but Serena showed too much power today. Gutted i missed out on Venus at 1.27 - she breezed past the second seed dementvivivivia or something.

Wanted to back AIK in the Swedish league 2.16 away to some real shit team. Odds were a steal.. I missed the KO by 5 mins and they had already scored to go one up!! Odds now 1.36 but i still backed them and they duly obliged 4-1 in the end! Happy days! On a decent run at the moment but the odds im backing i guess they should be steaming in.

Rafa/Fed double to tomorrow only pays 1.10 - might avoid will take 4 hrs to get through both matches at least! Will have another look at Scandinavian football.. odds for one goal or more around 1.10 on most games - easy money? Worth a look..

Balance £142.82 - Day 6

Mario to win BB.

Was pleased to see Andy Murray get knocked out of Wimbledon, had a nice lay at 5.7 and Nadal smashed him in straight sets. The crowd at Wimbledon turn into patriotic monsters when an "Englishman" in this case a Brit takes to Centre Court. Ok, it was an amazing comeback against Gasquet but the middle class crowd jeering every double fault and cough when Gasquet was serving. As someone said "the crowd would probably demand an encore if Fred West turned up with a tennis racquet on Centre Court" and lets not forgot how much Murray was Anti-English in regards to the Football so Fuck Off Murray!!!

Back to todays betting and Im not sure about the Williams sisters today, they seem a little skinny odds today. Might wait until a few games have been played and bet in-running. There is always Scandanavian football or is that a bet too far?

Im covered in mosquito bites and im scratching while im writing this, arggggh! Watching Mario on BB too - awesome David Brent-isms. Mario to win.

Balance £123.38 - Day 5

Tuesday 1 July 2008

The Williams Sisters!

Thank god for the Williams sisters, they both won their quarter final matches in straight sets. Backed Venus first at 1.17 then Serena at 1.31 (missed the 1.37).. A good day which has put my balance up to £119.58 slightly ahead of schedule.

I feel more comfortable backing 1.17 shots than laying a 7.0 horses at the moment, I think i will work on the horses more at the weekends when i have time and more selection to choose from.

May well look to lay Murray against Nadal tomorrow at 5.7 - surely Murray cannot pull this off? Hopefully the comeback against Gasquet will have taken it out of him and the fact he isnt in the same class as Nadal.

Another long day at work today.. I hope the job hunt goes as smoothly as todays bets! GL to all those still participating.

Balance £119.58 - Day 4

One Step Forward...

Was another slow day as I struggle to get the grips with what im trying to achive here. I made an easy £4.76 on Venus Williams to win her 4th round match today, I should have left it at that for the day putting me on target but then had a small punt Stand In Flames to place at 1.92 in the last at Windsor - just got beat into 4th.

Disappointing although encouraged i didnt chase that bet and decided that was it for the day. Leaves my balance more or less the same as I started the day. Im now 4/6 and betting quite randomly, not sticking to the intial lay horses to increase abnk by 3%. I think maybe the lay of Tax Free has put me off laying horses.. I need to get back to winning ways tomorrow and a confidence boost.

Serena Williams is 1.33 to beat Radwanska in the 1/4 final - Looks tempting will check out her opponent before i bet though.

Balance £105.63 - Day 3.

Old Habits Die Hard...

Oh dear, got home yesterday afternoon to see my balance was down to £88.77 after Tax Free had won - lesson learned! I not quite the master layer yet, the next race was the 320 and had a quick look at the forum and Dazz was tipping up First Boy e/w which was trading at 2.04 for the place I chased my previous losses and had £13.77 to place (rounding my balance down to an even £75)

Watching the race the horse looked beat with two flights to go but was scrubbed along around the turn and cruised past the front three to win the race! Wish i would have had to win too.. (hindsight is a wonderful thing). I was annoyed with myself for allowing myself to chase exactly the kind of behaviour this challenge was supposed to stop me doing!!

Anyway on to the Euro2008 final and i layed 0-0 for £5 and was relived to see Torres score a quite magnificent goal after 36 minutes. Job done - I will look at the horses today or maybe a punt on the tennis. Usually some good opportunites in the tennis.

Balance is now £107.12.

Steady Start

I have started my challenge yesterday with a decent lay. I laid Lady Grace at 14's to win £3, i am looking to avoid Handicap Races and laying horses on their debut. Watching Lady Grace come in last was quite satisfying although slightly nerve racking as i stood to lose around £40. Anyway i was quite pleased and started looking for potential lays this morning and came up with Tax Free. I managed to lay it at 5.4 for £3 which makes my liability only £14, myboycharlie and benbaun should beat this horse so heres hoping! Tax Free is now currently 7.2 so I feel even more satisifed with my lay.

Off now for the afternoon to catch some sun and food shopping - yawn. Might try and watch the race on betfair on my mobile if dont get too much earache while im out! Will look at Euro2008 final as well.. I fancy a 0-0 lay as Spain always create chances and the Germans have been scoring freely too.

Introduction

After a up and down week where I experienced the highs and lows of gambling I realised i needed to refocus, on Tuesday this week I was stupid enough to withdraw £300 and play the roulette in the local bookies. The first spin hit one of my big numbers and was instantly £92 in profit and decided to collect it and leave £92 up – I would have liked to have played longer but knew I could well end up £300 down.

I have also been following a very decent Tipster service (well the past results were excellent) but the two months I have been following have been very costly. The service gave two short priced favourites and hoping the tide would turn I backed the first one for £25 (my usual bet is £10, I like to have a comfortable points/bank ratio). Watching the horse come no where near winning I was quite upset with myself for increasing my stakes based on impulse – I then followed the second tip and backed for £55!! Needless to say it didn’t win, at this point I was fuming with myself as I lost all discipline and had chased my losses.

This was when I decided to I needed to tighten up and regain my previous discipline, it had been a strange few days for me as it was out of character – maybe I was having a bad day and felt the need to play the roulette? I still get pissed off with myself thinking about the £80 blown on two horses – was tempted to deposit more cash and back Spain to beat Russia that evening but decided to cut losses for the day and regroup. Of course Spain went on to a 3-0 win against Russia, if I had backed it no doubt it would have been 0-0 and Spain to win in extra time!!! Ah well…

I have been paying particular attention to a thread on the Betfair forum titled “£100 becomes £137,920.12”. The concept is starting with a bank of £100 picking one horse a day to get beat a day for a year at BF odds of 51.0 or less paying 5% commission. An interesting theory initially seems very do-able? Of course, easy I think to myself! I have put £100 into my account and see if I can follow this through, I have taken encouragement from other forumers who have started this and going well.

It will be a good test of patience and discipline something I have been lacking recently; it also gives me a target to work towards. I would love to be able to reach £500 - £1000 using this system, for the time being im going to work out a set of rules to follow i.e. what type of race, conditions etc. I will also look at laying correct scores/results in Football games as im more comfortable with Football.

My aim is to increase my £100 bank by a minimum of 3% per day. I will not restrict myself by how many bets I have if i feel its a good opportunity.
